A Rare Ceremonial Cacao is Coming: Ancient Lavado Cacao from Mexico
Coming soon to our store...
We’re excited to introduce something incredibly rare, ridiculously healthy, and deeply rooted in ancient tradition: Lavado ceremonial-grade cacao from the southern region of Mexico.
Unlike the typical cacao used in chocolate, Lavado cacao beans are unfermented. Instead of fermentation, these beans are washed and sun-dried in the traditional way, a method passed down for generations. This simple yet powerful process retains more micronutrients, more polyphenols, and more of cacao’s original spirit. The result? A cacao that doesn’t just taste different — it feels different.
It’s bold. It’s potent. And it’s absolutely packed with benefits.
Why It Matters: The Health Boost
Lab-tested and proven, our new Mexican cacao contains nearly double the amount of three major health compounds compared to standard ceremonial cacao:
Polyphenols – Antioxidants that fight inflammation and support cellular health
Flavanols – Support mood, blood flow, cognitive function, and heart health
Theobromine – A gentle, heart-opening stimulant offering long-lasting, crash-free energy
Most popular drinks only give you one of these. Coffee might give you a theobromine-like jolt. Matcha might offer antioxidants. But ceremonial cacao gives you all three, in one beautiful, sacred cup.
It’s why the effects are so much more noticeable. You can literally feel the difference.
If You’ve Been to Mexico... You Might Have Already Tasted It
If you’ve wandered through the markets of Oaxaca, sipped a rich hot chocolate in Chiapas, or caught a street vendor in Tabasco grinding cacao on the spot — there's a high chance you’ve already tasted Lavado cacao.
It's a tradition still alive in Mexico, passed down in the same way for hundreds of years. And yet, most of the world has never tasted it.
Deep Roots: Ancient Land, Ancient Beans
This cacao is grown in agroforestry-rich landscapes just a short distance from the ancient Izapa ruins and the Tacaná volcano — places with rich biodiversity and spiritual history. These lands have cultivated cacao since the time of the Olmecs and Maya, and recent archaeological discoveries (like those in the Powis study) prove cacao was used ritually as early as 1900 BC.
There’s a reason the ancient Americas didn’t ferment their cacao. They knew the true power of cacao lies in its natural, untouched form.
Lavado: Pure, Powerful, and Coming Soon
Unlike fermented cacao, Lavado cacao retains a unique colour (light reddish-brown) and a stronger nutritional profile. The flavour is intense, the body feel is deeper, and the energy is cleaner. It’s a perfect choice for:
Daily cacao rituals
High-focus creative work
Supporting emotional clarity
Nutritional and energetic wellbeing
How to Use It:
Ceremonial cacao is simple to prepare. Just melt the desired amount (15g for a light cup, 42g for a full ceremonial dose) into hot water or plant-based milk, and stir until smooth. Add cinnamon, chili, vanilla, or your favourite herbs. Drink slowly, and let the cacao guide you.
Why We’re Sharing This Now
Because the cacao world is waking up. And this Lavado variety is still largely unknown outside of Mexico. As one of the few bringing it to the UK, we want to honour its story — and make sure it’s shared with those who truly value cacao not just as a product, but as a plant ally.
