Sourced from the volcanic highlands of Soconusco, Chiapas, this rare Lavado-style cacao is one of the most traditional forms of ceremonial cacao available today. Grown in the very region once reserved for Aztec nobility and Mesoamerican priests, it carries centuries of sacred use in every block.

What makes Lavado cacao unique is its ancestral process: instead of fermentation, the beans are washed and sun-dried immediately after harvest. This preserves the cacao's natural intensity, deepens its bitter complexity, and retains even more flavanols, antioxidants, and theobromine — making it one of the most potent forms of cacao for body and spirit.

With its earthy, bold character and untouched purity, this cacao is ideal for those seeking a closer connection to cacao’s original ceremonial form. Ethically sourced, heavy metal tested, and crafted with reverence, it’s a powerful ally for ritual, meditation, or mindful daily use.

The Origins of Cacao Culture

Over 3,500 years ago, in what is now southern Mexico, the Mokaya people became the earliest known culture to drink cacao. Archaeological finds from this region show they were preparing cacao as a bitter, unsweetened drink as early as 1900 BCE.

This cacao wasn’t eaten as chocolate. It was drunk during gatherings and rituals, valued for its energising and heart-opening effects. The Aztecs later called this drink xocolatl, meaning “bitter water”, a name that captures its true, powerful character.

Our Lavado cacao is made using a similar ancient method: unfermented, sun-dried, and pure. Preserving the original spirit and strength of the cacao traditions that began with the Mokaya.

Benefits of Cacao

Cacao is basically nature's way of giving you a boost in every department! From keeping your heart ticking nicely with its flavonoids to giving you that extra pep in your step (and a smile on your face) thanks to mood-lifting compounds, cacao’s got your back. It even helps you stay sharp without the caffeine jitters, keeps your gut happy, and yes—might just give your love life a cheeky little nudge too! Plus, with all those antioxidants and minerals, it's like a daily dose of feel-good magic in a cup.

How to Prepare Mexican Cacao

Our Mexican Cacao is traditionally pressed into coarse blocks. To prepare, chop or dice the cacao into finer pieces—this makes it easier to blend smoothly.

Serving size: 2 tablespoons ≈ 15g
Ceremonial dose: 40g

Preparation Method

- Chop the cacao block into small pieces.

- Add the cacao (and any spices you enjoy, such as cinnamon or chilli) to a cup or blender.

- Pour in hot water and whisk or blend until smooth.

- Add your preferred plant milk for a creamier consistency.

- Blend or whisk again to create froth.

- Sweeten naturally with honey, agave, or date paste.

Note: Mexican cacao has a naturally coarse texture. Small bits may remain in your cup—this is completely normal and part of the authentic experience.

Sip with presence, honoring the tradition.
